The Eastern Ontario Health Unit’s (EOHU) region —saw an increase of 12 active COVID-19 cases over the weekend.
The small resurgence of cases, two of which are in Prescott Russell, two in Cornwall and eight in SDG are all linked to residents not having received their full vaccination.
Dr Paul Roumeliotis told reporters the cluster of eight cases in SDG involved travel outside of the country.”
For the time being, Dr Roumeliotis is saying no to a fourth wave, instead, he anticipates that small ripples might be felt in the region, but that these would quickly reduce thanks to growing vaccination rates.
Data presented by Dr Roumeliotis showed that 80.8 per cent of the local population over the age of 12 have received their first dose, while 70.4 per cent eligible residents have been fully vaccinated.
The doctor’s goal is to bring up the rate of fully vaccinated residents to 90 per cent by the end of the summer — that would enable for true herd immunity.
