The Happy Joe’s pizza and ice cream chain, based in the Midwest, has a Chief Happiness Officer, whose job is to perform random acts of kindness for guests, staffers and vendors.
Tom Sacco walks elderly customers to their cars when it’s snowing, leaves gift cards for delivery drivers and sends gifts to employee’s families.
He also leads employees in singing Happy Birthday to customers. Tom says, “We can’t turn our restaurants into five-star hotels, and we can’t do white tablecloth dining… but it doesn’t cost anything to be nice” .
