Close to home when it comes to french fries, they are drizzled with gravy and topped with cheese curds, voila, your poutine!  But for most North America’s, even if it’s not poutine, they’ll go for a side of fries.

A new study published by the South Florida Reporter reveals that the average North American eats close to 30 pounds of French fries per year. Did You Know:

-Leaving the potato skin on French fries actually leaves in important vitamins that are lost if the skins are peeled away

– North Americans eat a total of 4.5 billion pounds of French fries each year

-The USDA actually considers frozen fries as “vegetables,” which is why you might find them in the frozen vegetable aisle at the grocery store.

-There is a whole museum dedicated to French fries called the Friet Museum in Belgium. Belgians dip/sauce of choice is mayonnaise-based.

-There are actual fry-tasting rooms at the McDonald’s headquarters in Illinois.
