Aged Beer – Just A Few Years

Sep 7, 2021 | 5:38 AM

Archaeologists were digging in China when they found the remains of a 9,000 year-old beer. The alcohol was inside several vessels, which were found near two human skeletons. The archaeologists believe mourners drank the beer in honor of the dead. The archaeologists also found a beer recipe inside some ancient pottery.

Researcher Jiajing Wang says: “Our results revealed that the pottery vessels were used to hold beer, in its most general sense—a fermented beverage made of rice, a grain called Job’s tears and unidentified tubers. This ancient beer though would not have been like the IPA that we have today. Instead, it was likely a slightly fermented and sweet beverage, which was probably cloudy in color.”
