Core Services To Be Reviewed Tonight With Clarence-Rockland City Council

Sep 27, 2021 | 10:40 AM

The results of a review of “core services” will be presented to Clarence Rockland City Council tonight. (Monday night)

Among the recommendations, consultants from Blackline Consulting say council should investigate changing the garbage collection schedules and bag limits to increase the diversion rate.

They are recommending reducing curbside garbage collection frequency from weekly to bi-weekly and increase recycling collection from biweekly to weekly.

The report acknowledges the change may increase the operating costs as recycling is more costly to process.

For example If 10% more recycling were achieved this would increase operating expenses by $224k.

They also recommend the city develop a “cost recovery” policy as Clarence Rockland currently only recovers a small percentage of its recreation expenses, lower than the provincial average.

The report contains a total seven recommendations.
