Clarence-Rockland Public Library Commemorates National Day For Truth & Reconciliation

On Thursday The Clarence-Rockland Public Library will be holding events to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

 

9:25 AM
Catherina, the CRPL CEO, will welcome Abigail Collins, a Mi’kmaq First Nation descendent and student in grade 8 at l’Escale, and give her tobacco out of respect. She will then recite the land acknowledgment.

9:30 AM
Abigail will read Indigenous stories during the French Indigenous Storytime for children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years. Register for EVENT HERE.

9:55 AM
Catherina will welcome Louise Viau, of the Metis First Nation, and give her tobacco out of respect. She will then recite the land acknowledgment.

10:00 AM
Mme Viau will read Indigenous stories during the English Indigenous Storytime for children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years. Register for EVENT HERE.

10:30, 10:55, 11:20 and 11:45 AM
Mme Viau will present educational sessions with regards to the history of Orange Shirt Day and how to commemorate National Day For Truth and Reconciliation.

 

Please note registration for Storytime is required.

 

Clarence Rockland Mayor Mario Zanth, will be attending some of the events between 10 AM and 12 PM. on Thursday.

 

Canada will observe the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Thursday.

 

Canadians are being urged to hold a moment of silence at 2:15 p.m.

 

It marks the grim discovery of 215 unmarked graves in Kamloops, B-C and the horrific realities Indigenous children had to live with while being forced to attend residential schools.
