Members of the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a motorist for impaired driving.
On June 2, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers responded to a collision on Limoges Road, in The Nation Township, after receiving numerous reports that a vehicle had hit the Via Rail crossing arm.
During the investigation, officers utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD), and the driver failed the test. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, 67-year-old Joseph Villeneuve, from The Nation Township, Ontario, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC
- Operation while impaired – alcohol CC
The motorist received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and their vehicle was impounded for forty-five days.
The accused is also scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
