Hawkesbury Councillor Speaks Out About Speed Cams

By Derrick Scott Sep 11, 2025 | 6:34 AM
Hawkesbury City Councillor Julie Seguin issued a press release after Monday’s council meeting and shared her opinion regarding upcoming speed cameras in Hawkesbury.
Seguin believes that the installation of two cameras should have been discussed in Committee of the Whole before being decided, in order to respect the commitments made to citizens. She said she is in favour of red light cameras, which reduce accidents  but believes that photo radars do not solve speed problems and are mainly seen as a cash grab, citing the same comments made by Premier Ford earlier this week who sees them as a way for municipalities to make money.
Instead,  Seguin proposes recognized traffic calming measures, such as audio tapes, raised intersections or small roundabouts that would permanently reduce speed and accidents.
