Industrial Development In Hawkesbury Slow: Lack Of Water/Sewer Service Is To Blame

By Derrick Scott Oct 20, 2025 | 5:49 AM

Industrial development is stagnating in the Hawkesbury region due to a lack of water/sewer service. The Hawkesbury Industrial Investment Association owns 130 acres on the Hawkesbury–Champlain border for a park that can generate up to $5 million in taxes.

Due to a lack of services, a dozen projects have left for the Cornwall and Lachute regions. The Association says it is ready to invest $4 million for the connection and is quickly asking for an intermunicipal Hawkesbury–Champlain agreement or annexation. The two municipalities confirm negotiations in 2024, which are considered positive but without public details.
