BIG-FM in conjunction with Broadway Bar & Grill Rockland handed over The BIG cheque to The Rockland Help Centre and Canadian Mental Health Champlain East.
The $6592.00 total was hit from ticket sales from September’s sold out BIG Broadway Bash featuring local cover band East End Hick last month. The event was also sponsored by Sauve Law and Kooltech Mechanical. The total also included sales of raffle tickets, stationware, as well as a separate fundraiser the band took on for mental health.
Chantal Tessier from Canadian Mental Health Champlain East, said “All of the money will go back into the community for suicide intervention training, mental health resiliency training courses, campaigns in reducing stigma associated with mental illness.”
“This generous donation will help provide families and individuals put food on their table. There are currently 350 active files which represents 650 adults, 200 children the centre supports on a monthly basic.” said Daniel E. Sabourin, President of The Rockland Help Centre.
Broadway Bar & Grill Rockland, no stranger to giving back will be hosting a similar event in November. The restaurant in conjunction with BIG-FM will have a viewing party for the local invention My Friend Toothy, who will be featured on CBC’s Dragon’s Den.
“During the event a portion of food and drink sales will be used to purchase My Friend Toothy kits, which we will donate directly to Valoris. Our staff, our team is always committed to giving back.” said Mike Cooke, owner of Broadway Bar & Grill Rockland.
Since BIG-FM launched in May, the radio station, including 107.7 BIG-FM Hawkesbury, has already donated over $35,000 in in kind advertising to support local charities, community events and non profit organizations while adding more local, regional news on air and on line including the addition of local news in the afternoon beginning before month’s end.
