In Clarence-Rockland, the decision to move the sports infrastructure from Simon Park to a new complex on the other side of Route 17 is met with strong opposition. Former mayor Jean-Marc Lalonde and more than 200 citizens denounce a project deemed dangerous, fearing for the safety of young people who would have to cross the highway.
They defend the maintenance of the current grounds, accessible on foot and close to schools. Councillor Diane Choinière reminds us, however, that the project targets the entire territory.
The City assures that the future complex will be integrated into a community hub with bike paths and safe passages.
