North Glengarry Council reviewed ALTO’s high-speed rail project, which includes a Toronto-Quebec City line by 2037. The nearly 1,000 km network, fully electrified, would reach more than 300 km/h and serve seven major centres. Mayor Jamie MacDonald, however, fears the disappearance of regional VIA Rail stops like Alexandria. ALTO says it wants to complement, not replace, VIA Rail. Consultations will follow.
