Experts and officials warn that the Toronto-Quebec City high-speed rail corridor will require significant amounts of electricity, while the networks are already under pressure. Ontario anticipates a 75 per cent increase in demand by 2050, driven in part by AI data centres, electric vehicles and population growth.

Hydro One confirms that it has held preliminary discussions with Alto, the Crown corporation responsible for the project, regarding energy needs.
