Sidewalk Project In Vankleek Hill Gets Scrapped

In Champlain, council unanimously decided to abandon the sidewalk extension project along Highway 34 between Vankleek Hill’s Foodland and the VCI School. The project, estimated at $1 million, would have required major drainage and road work.

Instead, the funds will be devoted to the maintenance of aging infrastructure in order to limit tax increases. The council also refused to install traffic lights at the intersection of Route 34 and Perreault Street, respecting the opinion of the MTO, which considers the lights unjustified.
