UCPR Rejects Study To Run Police Services Local

By Derrick Scott Mar 4, 2026 | 4:57 PM

The Council of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell has rejected a proposal to study the possibility of entrusting police governance to the regional level. Currently, there are two Ontario Provincial Police detachments serving the territory. The majority of municipalities opposed the study, believing that local consensus should be respected and that this would further complicate the management of services. The resolution was defeated, with only Hawkesbury President Mario Zanth and Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre voting in favour of the study.
