Survey Says We’re Not Sold On High Speed Rail Service Going Through Our Region

ALTNO, the  group pushing back against the proposed Alto high-speed rail line says Canadians still aren’t sold on it. The group says a new survey shows only about a quarter of people strongly support the project, while many are still unsure. Support drops outside Ontario and Quebec, and about 40 per cent say the issue could affect how they vote.

Meanwhile, some local property owners are getting notices from Alto, asking for permission to collect environmental data on their land for the planned Ottawa–Montreal rail line. The company says it’s voluntary, there’s compensation, and it doesn’t mean the rail line will go through that property. ALT NO has also launched an online map showing where these notices are popping up, including several around Vankleek Hill.
