The United Counties of SDG could reopen the debate on the length of the prefect’s term of office, currently one year, to two years. Current and former elected officials believe that a longer term would strengthen SDG’s influence within the Eastern Ontario Reeves’ Caucus, allowing more time to master the role and sit on key committees. The subject had already been discussed in 2023 without success. A discussion could return to the council in May.
