By Derrick Scott Apr 23, 2026 | 4:01 AM

On Monday, April 20th, 2026, the Clarence-Rockland  Public Library officially assumed responsibility for the Clarence-Rockland Museum with the transfer of keys from the City of Clarence-Rockland. This marks the transition to a new management and governance structure for the museum, which is now under the Library’s responsibility.

Gilles Chartrand, Volunteer Museum Coordinator for 16 years, has been involved at every stage of the process undertaken by the City and the Library, including the City-led development of the Museum Strategic Plan. The Library looks forward to working with Mr. Chartrand during the professionalization of the museum.

The next steps involve conducting an assessment of every item in the museum. Donors will be contacted if items they have previously donated are no longer needed for the collection. The rest of the items will be carefully catalogued and stored to be used in future displays and/or programming. The Library is committed to safeguarding the community’s past and ensuring the preservation of its heritage.
In the coming weeks and months, there may be a call out to the community for volunteers, co-op students and other help. The Library looks forward to working with local history enthusiasts.

Further details will be provided as soon as they become available.
