The former mayor of Hawkesbury, René Berthiaume, is proposing to make training on municipal politics mandatory for future elected officials and certain city executives. He believes that a better knowledge of the laws would avoid mistakes, such as the closed meeting deemed non-compliant by the ombudsman. The proposal received a mixed reception at the council. Some elected officials consider the training useless, while others want to wait until after the elections.
