The St-Albert Community Hall has officially moved into local hands, with ownership and operations now transferred to the Organisation du Groupe communautaire de St-Albert Inc.
The Nation Municipality announced the transition on Friday, July 17, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the community facility. The local not-for-profit organization will now oversee the hall and surrounding amenities, including the ball diamond, playground equipment, outdoor rink, multisport court, and gazebo.
While the community group takes on full responsibility for managing the property, The Nation Municipality will continue to provide financial support as part of its commitment to working alongside local organizations and keeping community spaces active and accessible.
“The Organisation du Groupe communautaire de St-Albert Inc. has played an important role in the community for many years. We are confident they will continue to make the St-Albert Community Hall a welcoming place where residents can gather and participate in activities for years to come,” said The Nation Mayor Francis Brière.
Louise Cayer, President of the Organisation du Groupe communautaire de St-Albert Inc., said the transfer represents the success of a community-driven effort to preserve the facility for local residents.
“Thanks to the organization and everyone who supported this project, we achieved our goal of keeping our community centre available for the people of St-Albert,” Cayer said.
The organization will now handle facility bookings and rentals, with reservations available through its website at www.stalbertontario.ca/en.
The St-Albert branch of The Nation Public Library and the Corde à linge communautaire will continue operating from the site, ensuring important community services remain available.
The transition is part of a broader initiative launched by The Nation Municipality in December 2024, when council approved a plan to transfer the operation of the Fournier, St-Albert, and Caledonia community centres to local organizations. The goal was to create sustainable long-term management models while maintaining access to these valued gathering spaces.
Following discussions with residents and community groups throughout 2025, local organizations stepped forward to take on management responsibilities. Transition agreements officially came into effect in January 2026, beginning the handover process.
