The Ontario government is investing nearly $90,000 in four projects aimed at supporting seniors across Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

The funding was announced over the weekend by provincial MPP Nolan Quinn and is intended to help seniors stay active in their communities, take part in local activities and reduce social isolation.

One of the projects will support the Centre Charles-Émile-Claude in Cornwall as it launches the first French-language day program in the area for people living with neurocognitive disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease.

The program will provide a French-language environment where participants can take part in activities and receive support, while also giving families and caregivers additional resources.

Municipalities across the region will also receive funding for programs designed specifically for residents aged 55 and over.

North Stormont, South Stormont and South Dundas will use the funding to offer a variety of activities, including recreational programs, fitness opportunities, digital literacy sessions and fraud prevention initiatives.

The funding will also support social events designed to give seniors more opportunities to connect with others and participate in their communities.

The province says the investment is focused on helping older adults remain active, connected and engaged while addressing social isolation among seniors in Eastern Ontario.
