The race for mayor of Champlain is officially underway as residents prepare to head to the polls for the 2026 municipal elections on October 26.
As of August 3rd, incumbent Mayor Normand Riopel and Corina Parisien have both confirmed their candidacies for mayor, setting up a two-way race for the municipality’s top elected position.
Riopel, who currently serves as mayor, is seeking another term, while Parisien is challenging him for the position. With both candidates now officially in the race, the upcoming election is beginning to take shape.
However, the field of candidates could still change. The municipal nomination period remains open until August 21, giving other potential candidates an opportunity to enter the mayoral race before the deadline.
The October 26 election will give Champlain residents the opportunity to choose who they want to lead the municipality for the next term. Voters will also elect members of municipal council.
With several weeks remaining before nominations close, more candidates could still come forward, potentially turning the current two-way contest into a broader race.
