The Royal Canadian Legion recently marked its 100th anniversary with celebrations taking place across the country, including at Branch 423 in Alexandria.
The Alexandria branch joined the nationwide celebrations on July 17. The branch has been part of the local community for approximately 80 years and continues to provide support to veterans, their families and residents throughout the area.
Today, Branch 423 has around 430 members, representing a significant increase in membership. The Legion says part of that growth can be attributed to a special offer providing free membership as part of its centennial celebrations.
While supporting veterans remains at the heart of the Legion’s work, the organization is also involved in a number of local initiatives.
The branch continues to take part in the annual Poppy Campaign, which raises funds to support veterans and their families.
Locally, the Legion also provides support to organizations and initiatives throughout the community, including Glengarry Memorial Hospital and Maxville Manor.
The branch also supports various programs and activities aimed at young people, helping strengthen its connection with the next generation of community members.
After a century of service across Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion continues to play an important role in supporting veterans while contributing to communities like Alexandria and surrounding areas.
