A Hawkesbury resident is working on plans to create a new youth centre for teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17.
Carolann Renaud-Forcier has launched a community survey to better understand the needs of local youth and their families as she explores the possibility of creating a dedicated space for teenagers.
The proposed centre would provide a safe and welcoming place where young people could socialize, take part in activities and access support and resources.
Potential programming could include sports and recreational activities, homework help, workshops, community projects and volunteer opportunities.
Renaud-Forcier says the initial response from the community has been positive, and discussions have already begun with the City of Hawkesbury about the idea.
However, the project is still in the planning stages. Those involved are looking for a suitable location and exploring potential funding options before the centre could move forward.
The community survey is intended to help identify what services and activities would be most useful to local teenagers and their families.
If the project moves ahead, the proposed youth centre could provide another place for young people in Hawkesbury to connect, participate in their community and access support outside of school and home.
