Glengarry Memorial Hospital has been recognized by Ontario Health for exceeding the provincial target for reducing wait times between an abnormal colorectal cancer screening result and a follow-up colonoscopy.
The achievement means patients in the region can receive the additional testing they need more quickly after an abnormal screening result. Faster follow-up can help confirm a diagnosis and allow treatment to begin sooner when necessary.
Hospital leadership credits the achievement to the coordinated efforts of physicians, nurses, endoscopy teams and support staff who work together throughout the screening and follow-up process.
The recognition comes as Ontario continues to expand access to colorectal cancer screening. Since July 1, people at average risk can begin screening at age 45, lowering the previous age threshold.
The hospital says the recognition highlights the importance of timely access to diagnostic testing and the work of local healthcare teams in improving care for patients across the region.
