MacEwen Petroleum and MacEwen Agricentre are making a major investment in rural healthcare, pledging $100,000 over the next two years to the Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The commitment was made through the Foundation’s Business Steps Up program and will support the $3.5-million campaign to bring an onsite CT scanner to Glengarry Memorial Hospital in Alexandria.
For Jim and Allan MacEwen, the pledge continues a longstanding tradition of supporting causes that strengthen the communities where they live and do business.
Mark Adam, Chair of the HGMH Foundation, says the commitment is one of the most significant received through the Business Steps Up program to date.
“We are incredibly grateful to Jim and Allan MacEwen,” Adam said. “They have supported healthcare and so many important community causes over the years, and their continued generosity has made them true pillars of this community.”
Currently, patients who need a CT scan have to travel or be transferred to another hospital. The nearest CT services are approximately 40 kilometres or more from Alexandria.
An onsite CT scanner would give HGMH physicians direct access to important diagnostic imaging and allow more patients to receive care closer to home.
The MacEwen pledge will be made over two years, giving the Foundation’s campaign a significant boost as it works toward its $3.5-million fundraising goal.
The HGMH Foundation says the CT scanner campaign continues to receive support from individuals, families, businesses and community organizations across the region.
