Hawkesbury residents have elected Julie Séguin as their new mayor following Monday’s municipal election, with voters also choosing six councillors to represent the town over the next four years.
According to unofficial results released by the Town of Hawkesbury following the October 26 election, Séguin received 1,523 votes, approximately 42.7 per cent of the votes cast in the mayoral race.
Her closest challenger, Gilles Roch Greffe, finished with 1,029 votes, followed by Jeanne Charlebois with 522. Denis Pirollo received 370 votes, while Johanna Raso finished with 122.
Séguin Thanks Supporters Following Months-Long Campaign
Speaking after her victory, Séguin credited her campaign team and supporters for helping her through a demanding campaign that began in May.
While continuing to work full-time and raise her child as a single mother, Séguin spent several months meeting residents and sharing her vision for Hawkesbury.
She described the experience as a marathon, particularly compared to her federal election campaign the previous year, which lasted just 37 days.
Despite the challenges, Séguin said the dedication and experience of her campaign volunteers played an important role in her victory.
A Promise to Represent All Hawkesbury Residents
One of Séguin’s main messages following her election was that she intends to represent everyone in Hawkesbury, including residents who supported another candidate or chose not to vote.
“I am still going to be your mayor. I want to hear you. I want to work for you,” she said.
Séguin says she wants to make municipal government more welcoming and accessible by encouraging residents to take a more active role in local decisions.
Among her priorities are bringing back public question periods at town hall and restoring municipal committees that would allow residents to share ideas, raise concerns and participate in shaping the community’s future.
She believes giving residents more opportunities to get involved will help build a stronger relationship between town council and the people it serves.
Six Councillors Elected in Hawkesbury
Nine candidates competed for six seats on Hawkesbury Town Council, with Mario Dicaire receiving the highest number of votes.
According to the unofficial results, the six successful candidates are:
- Mario Dicaire – 2,450 votes
- Johanne Lapalme – 2,074 votes
- André Rouleau – 2,006 votes
- Denise Robitaille – 1,946 votes
- Antonios Tsourounakis – 1,913 votes
- Simon Guindon – 1,603 votes
The three candidates who did not secure seats were Sylvain Brunette with 1,551 votes, Yan Tremblay-Poisson with 837 and Stephen Leighton with 691.
Looking Ahead to the Next Four Years
With the election behind her, Séguin will now turn her attention to working with the newly elected council and delivering on her promise of a more open and accessible municipal government.
Her victory marks the beginning of a new chapter for Hawkesbury, with public participation and greater communication between residents and town hall expected to be among her priorities.
The election results remain unofficial until formally certified by the Town of Hawkesbury.
