The mayor of Casselman, Geneviève Lajoie, took advantage of the AMO’s annual convention to denounce the provincial formula that makes the municipality ineligible for rural subsidies to attract and retain doctors. With a rurality index of 39 out of a minimum of 40, Casselman does not have access to recruitment programs, unlike Limoges.
Ms. Lajoie called for a review to ensure fair treatment, recalling that the municipality faces the same challenges as other rural communities.
