The elected officials of Alfred and Plantagenet have decided to maintain the ward voting system for the 2026 municipal elections, rejecting the idea of a general or hybrid election.
The majority of councillors defended the status quo, citing the attachment of citizens to their local representatives and the risks of geographical concentration with a general election.
Only Councillor Ian Walker has pleaded for consultation with the public and to consider reform.
