Former Rockland lawyer Stéphane Langlois was sentenced to six years in prison for embezzling nearly $4 million in funds from his clients between 2016 and 2021.

Disbarred from the Ontario Bar, he pleaded guilty, avoiding a lengthy trial. Judge Alexandre Kaufman stressed the seriousness of his crimes that undermined public confidence in the profession and the need to deter other lawyers.

Langlois has publicly apologized to his victims. A restitution order has also been issued, which means that one of the victims will one day be able to recover the $827,000 taken from her by the former lawyer.
