On November 12, the public will be able to give their opinion on the term of office of the Reeve of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Council agreed to a public consultation following a motion by Russell Mayor Mike Tarnowski to see the Chair’s term for two years, instead of the current one.
Opinions differ: some elected officials, such as Francis Brière and Normand Riopel, believe that an extended term would allow for more stability and a better knowledge of the issues; others, such as Robert Lefebvre and Geneviève Lajoie, are concerned about the workload and want more transparency in the selection of the warden.
