Photo Radar To Disappear In Less Than 2 Weeks

By Derrick Scott Nov 4, 2025 | 9:26 AM

Ottawa’s existing photo radars will continue to issue tickets until Nov. 14, when a new provincial law bans their use across Ontario. Doug Ford’s government says the speed cameras are just a money-making machine on the backs of motorists and is taking away the right of municipalities to use them, even in school zones. Ottawa had unanimously adopted a motion calling for radar to be kept in these areas. Fines issued prior to the ban remain valid and must be paid. The province will install new signage in the affected areas, and may even intervene directly on municipal roads if the City does not act quickly enough. Ottawa is now assessing the impact of this measure on road safety, staffing and finances, particularly in view of the 2026 budget.
