SD&G United Counties Say Municipalities Should Decide Future Of Conservation Authorities

By Derrick Scott Nov 21, 2025 | 9:22 AM

SDG’s United Counties Council believes that municipalities should decide the future of conservation authorities, as they are the main funders of conservation authorities. Bill 68 proposes to merge the current 36 boards into seven large agencies, including a vast “St. Lawrence Regional Authority” bringing together the Conservation of the South Nation and the Raisin Region. Staff and elected officials fear the loss of the local link, longer delays and reduced representation. A motion calling for the maintenance of local offices, managed locally, was unanimously adopted. The province is seeking feedback until Dec. 22.
