The United Counties of Prescott and Russell are participating in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, from November 25 to December 10. The period includes December 6, the day of remembrance of the women killed at Polytechnique and the 11 women and 3 children who died in Prescott and Russell since 1975. Mayors wear the white ribbon to show their commitment to fighting violence against women and encourage the public, especially men and boys, to do the same. Three vigils will be held on December 6 in the region, organized by the Prescott-Russell Coalition, to honour the victims and support the survivors.
