November’s Hawkesbury Fire Still Affecting Community

By Derrick Scott Dec 8, 2025 | 5:55 AM

More than a week after the fire that ravaged a social housing building in Hawkesbury on November 29, about thirty families are still homeless. The Red Cross and social services have found temporary accommodation for everyone. A wave of solidarity is being organized thanks to citizens, in particular to provide clothes, food and gifts to the children. The president of the United Counties of Prescott-Russell, Yves Laviolette, says the challenge of rehousing the victims will be daunting, as the ridings look for a longer-term solution.
