A deficit of nearly $12 million threatens school transportation for the Upper Canada District School Board and CDSBEO by 2027-2028. The STEO consortium must adapt to the new provincial funding model, which is now based on the number of buses rather than the number of students. Among the changes envisaged: increased walking distances, longer journeys and fewer stops. Despite some possible savings, a deficit of about $8 million would remain. Proposals will be presented in the autumn.
