Fournier Community Hall Officially Transferred to the Riceville Agricultural Society

By Derrick Scott Apr 2, 2026 | 5:41 PM

The Nation Municipality is pleased to announce the official transfer of ownership of the Fournier Community Hall to the Riceville Agricultural Society (RAS), marking a new chapter for this important community space. As part of this change, the facility will now operate under a new name: the RAS Centre.

With this transition, full ownership and responsibility of the Fournier Community Hall now rest with the Riceville Agricultural Society. The Nation Municipality will continue to provide financial support as part of its commitment to collaborating with local groups and ensuring these community spaces remain open and active.

“The Riceville Agricultural Society is a passionate and dedicated group that has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to their community. From organizing events such as their annual fair to stepping forward to take on the Fournier Community Hall, they have shown what community pride looks like in action. We are extremely proud of their efforts and confident they will continue to make this space a welcoming hub where residents can gather, host events, and enjoy recreational activities together.” – said Francis Brière, Mayor of The Nation Municipality

“The RAS board and committee responsible for the centre are extremely excited to continue the traditions that have been fostered there over the years. There are already discussions underway about new and exciting offerings, and we look forward to working with our community to build on the centre’s current success. There will be some small improvements as we take over operations, but no major changes until we have had the opportunity to consult with our community groups and better understand how they use the centre.” – said Tobias Hovey, Second Vice-President of the Riceville Agricultural Society.

The Riceville Agricultural Society is now responsible for bookings and rentals. At this time, reservations can be made by email at RAScentre@ricevillefair.ca or by phone at 613-524-2348.

In December 2024, Council approved a direction to transition the Fournier, St-Albert, and Caledonia community centres to local organizations. This initiative aimed to support long-term sustainability while maintaining access to these valued spaces.

Throughout early 2025, the Municipality engaged with residents and local groups in each community to explore future operating models. These discussions led to the formation of local committees and existing organizations stepping forward.

Transition agreements came into effect in January 2026, beginning the process of transferring operations to the community-based organizations.

The Nation Municipality looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Riceville Agricultural Society and supporting all community groups involved as they take an active role in their local centres.
