Fuel Costs Affecting Local Farmers

In Eastern Ontario, rising fuel surcharges are increasing pressure on the entire agricultural chain, from grain transportation to farm inputs. Farmers say the uncertainty of the conflict with Iran is further complicating planning. Carriers adjust their surcharges according to the price of fuel, which increases bills. Experts also point to a risk for fertilizers, a large part of which transits through the Strait of Hormuz. Farmers say they are currently dealing with reduced profit margins and uncertainty about what will happen next.
