Simon-Olivier Péladeau-Houle Municipal Councillor, Ward 6 City of Clarence-Rockland has decided to not run in the upcoming municipal election. He provided BIG-FM with a note to share with listeners/residents:
“Dear residents of Clarence-Rockland, After careful consideration, I have made the decision to not running for a second mandate as a city councillor for ward 6. Serving the people of Clarence-Rockland, and particularly the residents of Saint-Pascal-Baylon and the Old Highway 17 area, has been a tremendous privilege.
This experience has allowed me to contribute to several important initiatives for our community and to work alongside dedicated colleagues, competent municipal staff, and citizens who are deeply committed to the future of our city. Since the beginning of my term, I have always sought to carry out my responsibilities with integrity, respect, and in the best interests of the community. While opinions have sometimes differed, every decision I made was guided by a sincere desire to serve our residents and contribute to the growth and development of our municipality.
As I prepare to leave office, I remain optimistic about the future of Clarence-Rockland. Our municipality is called upon to address significant economic, environmental, and social challenges like the growth of the populations, infrastructure needs, environmental protection, affordable housing, the economic vitality of our communities, and the quality of municipal services will require thoughtful decision-making and a sustained commitment from both our elected officials and municipal administration.
I am confident that our municipality possesses strong leadership, both within Council and throughout the municipal administration, to meet these challenges. The women and men who serve within these institutions work with dedication and professionalism to help build a stronger future for our community. However, it is essential that we never lose sight of the very foundation of public service: we work for our citizens, and we are accountable to them.
The most important decisions are those that remain grounded in the day to day realities of families, workers, business owners, farmers, seniors, and young people who make our community what it is. Public trust is invaluable and must be earned every day through listening, transparency, and accountability.
I would also like to clarify that my decision is the result of personal reflection on my journey, my priorities, and the projects I wish to pursue in the future. It is not related to any controversy or particular event.
I leave office with gratitude and with the conviction that Clarence-Rockland possesses all the qualities necessary to continue thriving. I will always remain deeply connected to this community that helped shape who I am and that will forever hold a special place in my life.
I sincerely thank all the residents who placed their trust in me, those who took the time to share their concerns, ideas, and aspirations, and everyone who contributes, in their own way, to making Clarence-Rockland a dynamic, welcoming community that is proud of its identity. This is not a farewell, but simply the beginning of a new chapter.
Thank you for your trust and support over the past several years.”
