A special fundraiser in memory of a beloved local resident is already being called a success.
The first-ever Blooms for Cancer fundraiser at Bergeron Garden Centre raised just over $3,230 for the Canadian Cancer Society. The event was held Saturday, on what would have been the birthday of Michel Bergeron’s wife, Thérèse, who passed away from cancer just over a year ago.
Michel says the overwhelming community support means the fundraiser will become an annual tradition, and he’s already planning new ideas to make next year’s event even bigger.
The day also featured a unique first for local radio. BIG-FM’s Derrick Scott broadcast The BIG Breakfast live for three hours from the top of the giant Adirondack chair at Bergeron Garden Centre — believed to be the first live radio broadcast ever done from atop an Adirondack chair.
The event was co-organized by BIG-FM in partnership with it’s sister station GO-FM. “We love creating unique experiences for our advertisers, especially when it comes to giving back.” said Operations Manager Derrick Scott.
“Using the power of local radio, in both English and French with BIG-FM, and GO-FM, over 80,000 listeners were able to find out about this fundraiser, and the other co-partnership events we have done, and will continue to do in the future with GO BIG RADIO GROUPE.” said General Manager Mathieu Manning.
Organizers say the day was about remembering Thérèse, supporting families affected by cancer, and bringing the community together for a great cause.
