The sale of the Château Montebello could take a new turn as the Quebec group Varin & Lavy has been contesting since yesterday the decision of receiver PwC to accept the offer of the Ontario company Westmont Hospitality. The local group maintains that its proposal was more financially advantageous, but PwC has favoured maintaining the management agreement with Fairmont and protecting the heritage status of the building. The mayor of Montebello, Martin Deschênes, welcomes the arrival of Westmont Hospitality, owner of hundreds of hotels across the country, and hopes for investments to preserve this historic establishment. The Superior Court is scheduled to rule on the transaction on August 3 in Montreal.
