Safety concerns persist in Maxville as the Ontario Ministry of Transportation maintains the temporary closure of the Highway 417 EAST off-ramp at Highland Road as part of work on the Scotch River Bridge. Many residents and local stakeholders are concerned that many motorists will instead use the Route 138 exit and Dyer Road, an intersection already considered problematic. Businessman Allan MacEwen and the municipality of North Glengarry are calling on the department to review its plan, but the government says a traffic study shows the area will be able to absorb the additional traffic. The complete closure of the ramp is scheduled from September to December, then again in the spring of 2027 until the end of July.
