Small businesses in North Glengarry will soon have a new option for handling their recyclable materials.

Starting Friday, August 21, eligible small businesses that generate a volume of recyclables similar to that of a typical residential property will be able to drop off their recyclable materials at the Waste Diversion Depot, located at 265 Industrial Blvd. in Alexandria.

The new service comes in response to changes to Ontario’s Blue Box Program. As part of the province’s move toward producer responsibility and the transition of recycling collection services, Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) properties were no longer considered eligible sources under the provincial program as of January 1, 2025.

That means businesses in this category became responsible for arranging and paying for their own recycling collection.

While many larger businesses already had private waste and recycling services in place, the change created additional challenges for smaller businesses that produce relatively small amounts of recyclable material.

The Township of North Glengarry is now offering a local option to help address that gap.

Eligible businesses can use the Waste Diversion Depot every Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Businesses must qualify and register with the Township before using the service.

To find out if your business is eligible or to register, email pwadmin@northglengarry.ca.

The Township says the initiative is intended to provide a practical and convenient recycling solution for the local business community while continuing to support North Glengarry’s waste diversion goals.
