A former municipal park in Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott could eventually become the site of new housing after East Hawkesbury Township Council declared the property surplus to its needs.
Council made the decision on August 10 involving the roughly 2.47-acre property at 8160 County Road 14, which was previously used as Sainte-Anne Park.
The Township has also changed the zoning for the property. It was previously designated as Open Space but is now classified as Residential Type 1, allowing residential development to be considered in the future.
The zoning change does not mean a housing project has been approved or that construction is about to begin. Instead, it gives the Township the option of selling the property for potential residential development.
Changes to the planning designation for Sainte-Anne-de-Prescott and St-Eugène also mean future development in the area could be serviced by private wells and septic systems rather than municipal water and sewer infrastructure.
Council approved the zoning change unanimously, with no discussion.
