Save Maple Hall Campaign Launched as Cumberland Landmark Faces $80,000 in Needed Upgrades

A 120-year-old Cumberland gathering place is asking the community for help to stay open and safe for future generations.

Maple Hall, which has hosted generations of celebrations, community events, meals, dances and fundraisers, needs approximately $80,000 in upgrades and maintenance work.

The required work includes upgrades to the kitchen exhaust and fire protection systems to meet NFPA 96 standards, along with building and accessibility maintenance.

The Cumberland Lions Club, which has cared for Maple Hall for more than 50 years, says the cost is more than the organization can handle on its own.

A Save Maple Hall Campaign has now been launched, with organizers asking residents to share the campaign, spread the word and watch for upcoming fundraising events and donation opportunities.

Donations can currently be made by eTransfer to savemaplehall@gmail.com.

Cash or debit donations can also be made at the Cumberland Lions Bar at Maple Hall on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Organizers say every donation and share can help preserve Maple Hall and its role as a community gathering place for years to come.
