Children who came to the Glengarry Pioneer Museum’s first Harvest Fall Festival back in 2000 are now returning with kids of their own. And remarkably, many of the things they remember looking forward to as youngsters are still waiting for the next generation.
On Sunday, September 13, from 10 am to 4 pm, the Harvest Fall Festival returns to Dunvegan, bringing together many of the sights, sounds, tastes and traditions that have kept families coming back for more than a quarter-century.
Helping make this possible, once again, is Centre de services Desjardins Alexandria, the Festival’s major corporate sponsor. This marks the 14th consecutive year that Desjardins has supported the event — an extraordinary record of sustained commitment to both the museum and the community it serves.
Perhaps this combination of continuity and community support explains some of the Festival’s staying power. Visitors will once again find the horse-powered parade led by the Quigley Highlanders Pipes and Drums, pioneer demonstrations, vintage machinery, live music, children’s activities, a Harvest Sale tent with home-sourced baking and produce, and an ice-cold beer from Wood Brothers Brewery at the museum’s historic Star Inn.
And some newer attractions… like the Cow Pie 50/50 raffle where the winning numbers are left to the digestive system of a dairy cow… are becoming traditions themselves. And perhaps that’s the best definition of one: something worth passing along.
So why not share Dunvegan’s fall homecoming day? Bring the kids, a friend or a neighbour and join us at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum on Sunday, September 13.
