West Nile virus is still present in Eastern Ontario, according to the Eastern Ontario Health Unit. A bird in the area recently tested positive, but no human cases have been confirmed this summer. The virus is transmitted primarily through the bite of an infected mosquito and can, in some cases, lead to serious complications. The EOHU reminds that the risk remains present well into the fall and recommends using mosquito repellent, wearing protective clothing and avoiding standing water around properties.
