The City of Clarence-Rockland will begin cleaning two basins at its Wastewater Treatment Plant on September 8, with some residents potentially noticing temporary effects during the work.
The cleaning of basins 4 and 8 will primarily affect areas between County Road 17 and Laurier Street, from Edwards Street to De La Rochelandaise Street, as well as the De La Berge, De L’Étang and Du Rivage street area.
The city says the maintenance is necessary to remove accumulated sludge and debris, maintain wastewater treatment efficiency, prevent equipment problems, reduce odours and ensure environmental compliance.
Residents in the affected areas may notice equipment noise and occasional splashing from toilets, sinks or drains, including on main floors and in basements. The city says these temporary conditions are not hazardous.
Residents are advised to keep toilet lids closed and cover basement floor drains while the work is underway.
If stronger-than-usual odours are noticed, residents should run water in sinks and floor drains to refill the traps and help prevent odours from entering their homes.
