In Casselman, a proposal to recruit and retain more French-speaking doctors through an incentive program was rejected by city council by a vote of three to two. Outgoing mayor Geneviève Lajoie wanted the municipality to study available programs to attract doctors. She says many Francophone residents, especially seniors, have to travel to receive care in their language. However, elected officials have raised concerns about possible costs and delays before the end of the mandate.
