Hawkesbury resident and local business owner Simon Guindon is running for one of six councillor positions in the Town of Hawkesbury’s 2026 municipal election.
Guindon, 44, says he has lived in Hawkesbury his entire life and has worked as a plumber for the past 20 years. He is currently studying finance and says he has followed municipal affairs closely for about 12 years.
In announcing his campaign, Guindon says he wants to focus on responsible investment, housing and stronger cooperation between Hawkesbury and neighbouring municipalities.
On infrastructure, Guindon says the town should pursue available provincial and federal funding to improve roads, bridges, water systems and infrastructure needed to support new housing. He points to the $1-billion infrastructure program announced by the federal and Ontario governments in August as an example of funding he believes Hawkesbury should be prepared to pursue.
Housing is another priority. Guindon says the town should examine underused municipal properties and identify opportunities for responsible residential development. He says additional housing could expand the municipal tax base, support local businesses and provide more options for younger residents and families.
Guindon also says Hawkesbury should work more closely with neighbouring municipalities, including Champlain and East Hawkesbury, arguing that regional growth could create additional opportunities for young people and help address the challenges associated with an aging population.
He also wants to improve communication between residents and Town Hall. Guindon says he would support a simpler and more accessible question period, along with stronger two-way communication between the municipality and community organizations.
“Hawkesbury has what it takes,” Guindon says in his campaign announcement. “I’m ready to help turn that potential into results we can all see and share.”
Guindon is one of nine candidates officially registered for the six councillor positions in Hawkesbury. The municipal election is October 26, 2026, with advance voting scheduled for October 22, 23 and 24.
